Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Season 5 Update Brings Controversial Return of Laser Guns – Fans React
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players find themselves conflicted after it was confirmed that laser guns are to return to the game going forward. The upcoming Season 5 update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will bring a host of massive changes, including the chance to turn one previously introduced weapon into a laser gun.
The addition of futuristic elements to the Call of Duty formula has always been a point of contention among the community. It first dabbled in a futuristic aesthetic with 2012's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, although it wasn't until 2014's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare that Exo movement was introduced. This was a massive shake-up to what players were used to, giving them new ways to traverse each map in a fast-paced manner. Some games in the Call of Duty series have brought similar movement tech back, while others have avoided it due to their controversial nature among players. Every fan has their own desires for the Call of Duty series, so understandably, these futuristic elements are not always popular.
While reviewing the features for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Season 5 update, Redditor jonnyvue pointed out the existence of a new conversion kit for the BAL-27 Assault Rifle, titled the JAK Deathmarch. The description mentions that this "replaces standard ammo with high-voltage power cells and the barrel with a photonic scatter barrel," allowing players to shoot "a spread of lethal laser blasts that take down enemies at short range." This has produced some mixed feelings among Call of Duty fans.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 fans are divided over the laser gun addition. One player commented, "You guys shouldn't be surprised after what they did to Vanguard," referring to the addition of whimsical skins and attachments in what was supposed to be a World War 2 game. Others enjoyed the fun potential of the laser guns, with one saying, "it's a video game nearing the end of its lifecycle, have some fun." There will definitely be players who incorporate this straight into their Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 BAL-27 loadout, and as another user pointed out, it's hardly far-fetched, given the fact that "there is Nicki Minaj rotating to B after finishing off Rick Grimes who was camping with Skeletor." The addition of these skins from other franchises makes features like laser guns easier to accept.
With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 approaching the end of its lifecycle, the hype for Black Ops 6 is continuing to grow. Treyarch's next entry in the series is set to have a day-one Xbox Game Pass release, making the title even more accessible. Prior to this, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to host a public beta in September, giving players the opportunity to try out the next iteration of the blockbuster franchise.
