Destiny 2 Players Disappointed as Darksaber Glitch Remains Unofficial
Destiny 2 fans were left disappointed when they stumbled upon a peculiar visual bug resembling the famous Darksaber from Star Wars in the game. This glitch transformed the Legendary sword, The Other Half, into a dead ringer for the iconic lightsaber from the Star Wars franchise. Players were thrilled to witness the resemblance, but their excitement quickly turned to dismay when they realized that the resemblance was purely accidental, with no official shader or ornament available to replicate the unique look.
The Destiny 2 community is no stranger to technical difficulties, especially with the recent release of the Lightfall expansion, which exacerbated server instability. Bungie addressed these concerns, trying to clarify the situation amid ongoing discussions about potentially moving to a new game engine or even starting fresh with Destiny 3 – options that don't seem likely to be pursued anytime soon. The developer acknowledged problems with their Claims system, designed to manage network connections, and unveiled a roadmap for future fixes.
Amidst the frustration caused by technical issues, occasional glitches are surprisingly welcome in Destiny 2. A user named Knives-n-Arrows shared an image of The Other Half, and due to a weapon preview menu glitch, the blade appeared entirely black instead of its usual purple energy. This unintentional transformation turned the Halo-inspired weapon into a startling resemblance of the Darksaber from Star Wars. Fans immediately drew connections, with many referencing "this is the way," a popular saying from The Mandalorian, the Star Wars show that prominently featured the Darksaber.
Regrettably, this bug only occurs when inspecting The Other Half and doesn't manifest when wielding the weapon in gameplay. While it has been present for years, it sits relatively low on Bungie's list of priorities due to its non-game-breaking nature. Still, the bug has fans yearning for an official shader or ornament that would let them enjoy the Darksaber-like appearance whenever they want. The current option, the Amethyst Veil shader, only alters the handle and doesn't affect the blade's appearance.
For now, Destiny 2 players can only hope that Bungie will take note of their enthusiasm for the Darksaber glitch and consider introducing a legitimate way to obtain this beloved look in the future.
