The GTA 6 hacker has been sentenced to an indefinite stay in a medical facility for their hacks
Arion Kurtai, suffering from severe autism, has been found guilty in connection to the international hacking group Lapsus$, which targeted tech giants including Uber, Nvidia, and EE. Alongside an undisclosed 17-year-old accomplice, he was convicted of serious computer misuse, extortion, and fraud after a seven-week trial as reported by Bloomberg.
Judge Patricia Lis highlighted Kurtai's ongoing interest in hacking, stating that he poses a 'high risk of significant harm to society' due to his ability to gain unrestricted access to computers.
Kurtai will remain in a secure medical facility until a mental health court determines that he no longer poses a threat to society.
The 17-year-old accomplice has been sentenced to 18 months of rehabilitative measures under mandatory supervision for minors.
The September hack resulted in the leak of an hour-long development of GTA 6, offering players a glimpse into the highly anticipated continuation of one of the most popular game series of all time. Details revealed that the game partially unfolds in the fictional city of Vice City, with a female character taking on a key role for the first time in the series' history.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is anticipated to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2025.
