Battlefield Redsec is now available as both a free-to-play release and an integrated mode within Battlefield 6. The dual format is deliberate: DICE wants the new battle-royale-style experience to serve as an entry point for new players while extending Battlefield 6’s ecosystem for those already invested.

For existing owners of Battlefield 6, installation is straightforward. Once the latest update is applied—roughly 21 GB on Xbox Series X|S—the Redsec option appears in the main menu alongside Campaign and Multiplayer. Selecting it launches the full standalone experience without any separate download or setup.

Those without Battlefield 6 follow a similar path through a dedicated client. Redsec is listed on Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation, and Xbox storefronts as a free download. It functions independently but connects to the same servers and content cycle as the integrated version, meaning updates, events, and seasonal progression remain identical.

There is a small advantage for Battlefield 6 players at launch. Attachments, skins, and other unlocked customization items automatically carry over into Redsec, while newcomers start from default gear. Yet the difference is minimal; early-tier scopes and grips provide only marginal statistical gains, leaving skill and situational awareness to decide most encounters.

The release underscores Electronic Arts’ broader strategy of linking premium and free-to-play audiences through shared content. Redsec’s rollout coincides with Battlefield 6 Season 1, reinforcing a cross-mode progression model that blurs the line between full-priced and free experiences. Players entering through Redsec can still purchase or upgrade to Battlefield 6 later without losing progress—a move intended to unify rather than divide the player base.

Battlefield Redsec is available now across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
