Crimson Desert, the latest title from Pearl Abyss studio, has finally been released on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. It was one of the most anticipated video games of 2026 and, perhaps, the most anticipated RPG this year. This is also evidenced by the huge number of players who added the game to their wishlists, which is more than 2 million, impressive sales, and the activity on Steam, where around 240,000 were in Crimson Desert at the same time, almost immediately after the release. It is already known that Crimson Desert has sold 2 million copies in a day, and developers have noted this and reported that the studio is looking at player feedback to make Crimson Desert as good as possible in the shortest time possible.

The players are excited over Crimson Desert’s huge map, bunch of activities, and spectacular combat system. And if you want to play well and make good progress since you begin your walkthrough, here in this article dedicated to the Crimson Desert Beginner Guide, you will know the best tips to play and learn more about the gameplay.

How To Level In Crimson Desert

Traditionally, RPG games include a well-known leveling system, where players receive experience by completing story and side quests, killing enemies, etc. That’s how Crimson Desert makes a difference because there is no leveling system in the game. Instead, you can improve your character with Abyss Artifacts - some collectible items, which can be used to upgrade abilities, gear, and more.

You can get Abyss Artifacts in different ways - defeating enemies and bosses, solving puzzles, doing main quests, completing achievements, and even buying them. These are essential to the mechanics of Crimson Desert, so you should spend some time getting them and making your character stronger.

Skill Tree Explanation

Another essential point of any RPG title is a skill tree, and in this case, Crimson Desert is not an exception. In the game, you have 3 areas in which you can improve your character: Spirit, Stamina, and Health. Spirit is available with Level 1-14 and includes such skills as you can check out below:

  • Force Palm
  • Healing Force Palm
  • Nature's Grasp
  • Focused Insight
  • Focus Shot
  • Evasive Roll
  • Double Jump

Stamina has levels 1-16 and the following skills for your character:

  • Shot
  • Throw
  • Restrain
  • Back Hang
  • Giant Swing
  • Wrestling
  • Unarmed combat skills

At last, Health has got Levels 1-18, and there you can improve:

  • Mystical Storage
  • Elemental Meteor Kick
  • Elemental Turning Slash
  • Swift Flight
  • Winch

If you want to improve your character in the right way, you should focus on improving skills from Stamina and Health. For instance, Back Hang is an essential skill to fight with bosses, and Giant Swing, as you can understand from its title, will let you make great moves dodging opponents. Another great skill in Crimson Desert worthy of attention is Nature’s Grasp: it can lift heavy objects, and you can throw them at enemies, giving them a lot of damage. Also, players will have a possibility to reset all their skills from the tree and try to complete it differently.

How To Upgrade Inventory Stash in Crimson Desert

By default, you have 50 inventory slots in Crimson Desert, but as you progress along your path, you’ll definitely need more space. In Crimson Desert, you can increase the number of your inventory stash by purchasing inventory bags. As you can check out, there are three types of them:

Type of BagSlots AddedWhere to get
Small Bag+1 slotPurchased from vendors for 50 Copper
Medium Bag+3 slotsEarned through Faction Quests and Commissions
Large Bag+5 slotsEarned through quests

As you can see, the easiest way to upgrade your inventory in Crimson Desert is to buy a Small Bag from vendors. But what about the Medium Bag and the Large one? What exactly should we do? Well, the developers made it easier for players, as you can find these specific missions in the Journal menu: they are noted separately from the main story quests and require you to make such actions as mining ore, chopping lumber, cooking food, and assisting townsfolk throughout Pywel.

You should consider these missions as essential during the start of your walkthrough, as once you get to Medium Bad at least, you’ll be able to have 3 more slots that will help you during the further missions.

How To Fast Travel in Crimson Desert

The players were super excited when they saw the main character of Crimson Desert, Kliff, saddle the dragon and travel through the vast territory of Pywel. But their game has a huge map, one of the biggest video game maps of all time. The fans have calculated it’s approximately 215 square kilometers, which is twice as big as was reported a few weeks ago. And, of course, fast travel is presented here.

You can use fast travel in Crimson Desert by activating Abyss Nexus or Abyss Cresset. There are main (Nexus) and smaller (Cresset) fast-travel points that you can activate in the game map to move across the map. To activate more fast-travel points, you can see Mysterious Energy circles on the map, and when you walk into this circle, you can either find the Abyss Artifact from Abyss Cresset or step onto the Abyss Nexus.

Where To Find Abyss Artifacts

As mentioned above, Abyss Artifacts is an important feature in Crimson Desert that allows you to upgrade your character and replaces typical levelling system presented in RPG titles. Besides beating bosses and doing main quests, you can also collect Abyss Artifacts in the above-mentioned Abyss Cresset; in the Mysterious Energy circles you can literally interact with them.

But there is also a Sealed Abyss Artifacts Challenge, it’s usually located on the roadsides in the Pywel surrounded by rocks. Each Sealed Abyss Artifact has a unique challenge, and below you can see some of the challenges you can make:

EquipmentCraft a sword at the SmithyEfficiency IFar south of the Hernand region, on the road just at the entrance to Sunset Valley, where it emerges from the trees.

As you can see, these artifacts require some easy and sometimes not-so-easy actions to get you a reward that will definitely help you in further adventures. Although some players prefer to walk across the map to find anything on their own, you can use these tips to make yourself confident from the very beginning.

How To Make More Money In Crimson Desert

Money is another important feature in Crimson Desert, just like in any other RPG. Although you can always steal money and other stuff from NPCs' houses and sell multiple items to vendors, there are more interesting ways to make your character rich in Crimson Desert.

For instance, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, you can work as a bounty hunter and receive rewards by finding some dangerous men across the map. To start, you need to find the bulletin and check out the details. There is also an advanced banking system in Crimson Desert, which allows you to open an account that costs 100 Silver and deposit a Gold Bar.

During the travels, you can also meet a Treasure Trader Goblin, which will drop his ornate chest. You will find a Gold Bar inside and then you may choose one of the Investment Strategy:

  • Low-Risk - Conservative investment; gain 0 to 2% of the profit.
  • Medium-Risk - Bold investment; gain 15 to 20% of the profit.
  • High-Risk - Aggressive investment; gain 50-55% of the profit.

Medium Risk is a recommended option here, as it is more consistent in the long perspective. During the High-Risk, you can make a lot but also lose everything. Low-Risk is not having such a big impact.

There are also two types of mini-games in Crimson Desert where you can win a jackpot: Duo and Five-Card. Duo is the game where you have two cards and you must have better cards to defeat your opponent. Five-Card is actually a poker version of Crimson Desert, as you have 5 cards and you need to win with a better combination.

Best Early Weapons in Crimson Desert

If you want to do more damage to your enemies in Crimson Desert, you will need some great weapons at the beginning of your walkthrough. Of course, The Sword of the Lord, the first weapon you obtain with Abyss Gear, and Grey Wolf Bow, the default starting ranged weapon of Kliff, have the right to exist, and they are easy to upgrade to receive more stats; at some point your character will need something bigger.

There are a couple of decent weapons you can get in the early story area. For instance, when you enter Hernand Castle, you can find Fallen Kingdom’s Sword inside one of the towers. At the start of the game, this weapon can make the difference with its high damage indicator. Then, near Goldleaf Trading Post, you must find rocks near the road sign - a sword called Free Greatsword is here; it has 16 damage and requires no fighting. You can also buy swords from vendors and upgrade them in Hermand.
