One of the biggest talking points in Update 1.29 is Embark’s response to community criticism surrounding weapon durability.

Following the Rising Tides update, many players complained that weapons degraded far too quickly, especially lower-tier gear. The backlash prompted Embark to revisit the system, and the studio is now increasing the number of shots weapons can fire before breaking.

According to the developers, the worst offenders received the largest buffs:

• Renegade durability increased by 54%
• Ferro durability increased by 18%
• Canto durability increased by 18%

Embark confirmed it will continue monitoring player feedback and may make additional durability adjustments in future patches.

New Trader: Ermal the Nomadic Envoy

Update 1.29 also adds a new trader named Ermal, the Nomadic Envoy, who arrives in Speranza with a rotating selection of valuable rewards.

Players who reach Level 25 can barter rare ARC materials and high-tier weapons in exchange for exclusive items and progression upgrades.

Ermal’s rewards include:

• Expanded stash space
• Expedition Vault access
• Cosmetics
• Blueprints
• Raider Tokens
• Gameplay items
• Weekly rotating rewards

The new Expedition Vault allows players to safely store up to five important items for retrieval after an Expedition.

Embark noted that stash expansion availability will remain limited initially while the studio evaluates player feedback and pricing balance.

New Weapon Added: The Rascal Grenade Launcher

A brand-new launcher called The Rascal joins the ARC Raiders arsenal in Live Update 1.29.

The lightweight sidearm launcher is designed as an alternative to the Hullcracker for dealing with heavily armored ARC enemies. While it packs serious firepower, Embark says the weapon comes with trade-offs:

• Slower reload speed
• Less reliable aiming
• More unpredictable handling

The patch also improves the Extended Barrel weapon mod, increasing bullet velocity and adding lower-tier variants.

Embark Expands Anti-Cheat Measures

Cheating continues to be one of the biggest complaints among ARC Raiders players, and Embark has now officially confirmed expanded anti-cheat plans.

Starting May 19, Embark is rolling out Denuvo Anti-Cheat to a limited portion of the player base before gradually expanding it further.

The studio clarified that it is not using Denuvo DRM, the controversial system often associated with performance concerns. Instead, only the anti-cheat technology is being implemented.

Embark says the new system is intended to improve cheat detection accuracy and help deliver stronger long-term security solutions.

Major Gameplay and Balance Changes

The update also introduces a large number of gameplay improvements and balancing tweaks across enemies, weapons, augments, and player interactions.

Key gameplay changes include:

• Reduced Photoelectric Cloak power cost from 10/s to 5/s
• Tactical Mk.3 Healing Augment now uses an AoE healing effect
• Healing increased from 20 to 45
• Cooldown increased from 30s to 45s
• Bettina weapon fire rate increased from 235 to 250
• ARC enemies now detect players differently through bushes and smoke
• Firefly fire damage behavior adjusted to better match visuals
• Rocketeer missile spread improved to reduce unfair instant kills

Embark also adjusted Queen and Matriarch enemy movement behavior so they step over obstacles more often instead of colliding through them, reducing frustrating knockback situations.

New Cosmetics and Character Customization

Update 1.29 adds additional cosmetic content and customization options for players.

New additions include:

• The Sandveil Set
• Sideburns facial hair option
• The Sheath Set arriving June 2

The update also improves cloth physics on outfits and continues optimization work for character texture consistency and performance.

Quality-of-Life Improvements and Bug Fixes

Embark included a huge list of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements in the patch.

Some of the more notable changes include:

• Players can now block others after reporting them
• Squad members are visible at the end of matches regardless of extraction status
• Added faster squad leave functionality
• Improved binaural audio positioning
• Fixed teleportation bugs on destroyed ARC parts
• Fixed grenade cancel issues
• Fixed missing zipline prompts
• Added striped overlays to deployable placement previews

The patch also improves stability and reduces instances of stuck loading screens.

Embark Shifts Toward Larger Seasonal Updates

The release of Live Update 1.29 comes shortly after Embark confirmed that ARC Raiders will move away from monthly content drops.

Instead, the studio plans to focus on delivering larger biannual updates while continuing to support the game with smaller live-service patches in between.

Embark already teased the upcoming Frozen Trail expansion, scheduled for October, which will reportedly feature the largest map ever added to ARC Raiders.

With Update 1.29, the developer appears focused on rebuilding player trust by addressing durability concerns, improving progression systems, and continuing its fight against cheaters while preparing for larger future expansions.
