Microsoft ve Ensemble Studios, Halo evreninde geçen bir MMO oyunu olan Titan'ı iptal etti.
As we know, Halo: Campaign Evolved, the remake of 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved, is in development for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, with the release date rumored for summer 2026. But, as it turned out, a large-scale MMO set in the Halo universe codenamed Titan was in development.
A new report from Windows Central reveals details about a canceled project. Microsoft and Ensemble Studios were responsible for the game's development; the studio is well-known for the Age of Empires franchise and Halo Wars. The events of Titan were set a thousand years prior to the main franchise, focusing on the Forerunners and the Covenant, and players would have had the opportunity to choose various factions and explore a massive world based on Halo lore.
One of the game's developers, Sandy Peterson, who was responsible for the design of Titan, took to his X account to share numerous details regarding Titan, its development process, and various gameplay features. He noted that the game was heavily inspired by World of Warcraft, as many members of the development team were avid fans of that title. Development on Titan was progressing steadily, with various missions and campaigns already created and the environment, races, art, models, and classes well-defined. One interesting feature involved a character race composed of solid glass—a design concept that was later adapted for Halo 4. The Flood and Mimics were also planned as playable factions.
According to preliminary calculations, Tital could have generated approximately $1.1 billion for Microsoft, but then Don Mattrick, the former head of Xbox, intervened. According to Sandy Petersen, he "murdered Ensemble Studios in its entirety for selfish purposes," which led to the studio's closure in 2009. Petersen called the cancellation of Titan “a great missed opportunity” and believed that the game could have become something special for all Halo fans.
Despite the cancellation of such an ambitious project, the Halo franchise is expected to see several more projects added in the coming years. Specifically, this includes the development of remakes for Halo 2 and Halo 3, regardless of the success of Halo: Campaign Evolved, as well as Halo Next— a game that will continue the Halo Infinite campaign and focus on expanding both the universe and The Endless faction.
