Hogwarts Legacy players hungry for more have a new place to explore: the Chamber of Secrets. A fresh mod for the PC version finally opens up the fabled room, giving fans a reason to dust off the 2023 hit while they wait on its sequel. It is the latest example of the game's PC community adding what the developers left out.

Shared on Curseforge and built by modders maxshig_dev, KBNGaming 2, theTarya, and Dyserina, the Chamber of Secrets mod does exactly what its name promises: it lets you explore a version of the Chamber reimagined for the game. The team recommends bringing a high-level character, and the quest "In the Shadow of the Study" is a prerequisite before you can head down. The mod is a PC-only affair, as ever with this kind of thing, so console players are left visiting the empty version.

Getting there follows the books' logic. The entrance sits in a girls' bathroom, reached by heading to the Lower Grand Staircase, walking toward the Slytherin common room entrance, and taking a right. You can actually visit that bathroom without the mod, but there is almost nothing to see, and that is the clever part. Hogwarts Legacy takes place roughly a century before the Chamber is opened in Harry Potter's second year, so the basilisk is still asleep and there is no Moaning Myrtle haunting the stalls yet. The mod reimagines the space for the era, so it is less a recreation of the film's version than the developers' own take on what the Chamber might have looked like generations earlier.

That kind of gap is exactly what the modding scene loves to fill. Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023, a rare year when Call of Duty lost the top spot, and it earned strong reviews on the back of a big, secret-stuffed open world you can lose dozens of hours in. Part of that replay value comes from the four Hogwarts houses, each unlocking its own scenes, and the game has always leaned on discovery, rewarding players who wander off the beaten path. The appetite is clearly there; the game proved a mainstream, big-budget Harry Potter RPG could be a phenomenon. Still, plenty of players have long since done everything the base game offers, and a brand-new location to explore is the sort of thing that pulls them back.

I am a sucker for open worlds that keep handing me new corners to poke at, and a fan-made Chamber of Secrets is exactly the kind of thing that gets me to reinstall a game like this. The timeline gag, an empty chamber with the basilisk still napping, is a neat reminder of how much room Hogwarts Legacy left on the table. I will happily wander down there while I wait on the sequel, even if that sequel is the thing I actually want.

That sequel, Hogwarts Legacy 2, is confirmed to be in development by a Warner Bros. Discovery executive, but almost nothing about it is official. There were rumors about a Hogwarts Legacy 2 announcement on State of Play, but that didn't happen, and the game still has not been formally revealed. The announcement has felt imminent for a while: insiders like Tidux floated a reveal at a PlayStation State of Play back in May 2025, and others pegged Summer Game Fest as the venue, yet each window came and went without a word. It is widely expected to arrive in 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

The rumor mill has been busy anyway. Multiple insiders claim the game will feature multiplayer, pointing to an Avalanche Software job listing for a senior engineer to build online multiplayer RPG backend, including matchmaking, lobbies, and servers. Online play has been a common fan request since the first game, and reports suggest it could extend to competitive matchmaking. If it pans out, it would be the studio's biggest structural change to the formula, turning a single-player RPG into something with a persistent online layer.

The most-wanted addition, though, is Quidditch. Several leakers say the sequel will finally include Quidditch in-game as a proper mode, something the original teased with its stadium and broom flight but never fully delivered, possibly even playable online. Quidditch has topped fan wishlists since launch, and leakers like PotterWorldwide insist the sequel finally puts it in. Other rumors point to visits to canon locations like Privet Drive and Diagon Alley, and the return of classic characters.

The biggest open question is when the sequel takes place. Former Warner Bros. Games boss David Haddad told Variety the game would coordinate some of its "big-picture storytelling elements" with the HBO Harry Potter series, which premieres this December, and a job listing has hinted at more established canon characters than the original could use. The first game's late-1800s setting kept famous faces off the table, so a jump closer to the books would open the door to cameos, maybe even Moaning Myrtle, though it would also invite a tangle of plot holes. Where that leaves the sequel's timeline is still guesswork: setting it alongside the books would be a fan dream but a continuity minefield, while a jump to just after the first game, or the decades before Harry arrives, would be tidier.
