PlayStation Network (PSN) experienced a widespread outage on July 24, leaving thousands of players unable to access their accounts, the PlayStation Store, and digital game libraries. The disruption affected users worldwide, with many reporting that even previously downloaded games could not be launched.

Reports of connection issues quickly spread across DownDetector and the PS5 subreddit, while Sony's official PlayStation Network Service Status page initially continued to indicate that all services were operating normally. As the outage continued, players reported being disconnected from multiple PSN features across the platform.

The problems also affected players attempting to join the Marvel Tokon open beta, with many receiving a "Server Busy" error message. However, the outage extended beyond a single title, preventing access to online features and digital content across PlayStation's ecosystem.

The incident comes just weeks after Sony announced that it will end physical game releases for PlayStation starting in January 2028, a decision that has already raised concerns about the company's increasing focus on digital distribution. The latest outage has renewed criticism from players who fear becoming fully dependent on online services to access their purchased content.

The disruption also follows another major PlayStation Network outage earlier this year that lasted nearly 24 hours, prompting calls for compensation from affected users. Sony has additionally faced backlash over changes to its digital content policies, including the planned removal of purchased movies from PlayStation libraries. Together, these incidents have intensified concerns about digital ownership and the long-term reliability of PlayStation's online services.

At the time of writing, some users report that PSN connectivity is gradually returning, although Sony has not yet provided an official explanation for the outage.
