Resident Evil has long been Capcom's biggest financial engine, and this year proved no exception. Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry released this February, became the franchise's fastest-selling game, and the data shows it's also driven renewed interest in older titles. This month, Capcom got an extra boost from a different corner entirely.

Last week's release of the new Resident Evil film, directed by Zach Cregger, which is turned out to be a genuine hit, quickly earning a reputation as one of the best video game adaptations ever made. According to a new report from Alinea Analytics' Rhys Elliott, the movie's premiere, combined with a franchise-wide sale from Capcom, sent several Resident Evil games back up the charts on both Steam and the PS Store. The effect is especially pronounced on PS5, where sales of the Resident Evil 2 Remake jumped 64% and the Resident Evil 4 Remake rose 54%. On PC, the numbers were more modest, up 11% and 14% respectively. Rhys Elliott also noted Resident Evil Requiem has now surpassed $500 million in revenue.

According to Alinea Analytics:

• RE2 Remake: PS5 sales nearly doubled, with daily players up 48%
• RE4 Remake: sales up 54% on PS5
• RE3 Remake: daily players up 25%
• RE4 Remake: daily players up 24%
• Resident Evil Requiem: daily players up 20%

The movie effect was much smaller on Steam, with sales increases of around 11–14%.

Game File shared some additional context, too. Analyst Stephen Totilo reported that six different Resident Evil titles each sold 3 million copies between mid-2025 and mid-2026, including the remake trilogy (2, 3, and 4) alongside Biohazard, Village, and Requiem, none of which comes as much of a surprise.

Capcom's next franchise release is Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the original 2000 game. It was originally targeting the first half of 2027 as the release window, though recent reports suggest that could slip to autumn instead. The studio is also officially working on a story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem, though its release date and details remain unknown.
