It started when Hale replied to a post by franchise insider Dantics about the Mass Effect: Universe trailer, writing that she is “holding hope for magic to happen.” She then went live on Instagram, where Meer joined her, and the stream can still be watched as a recording. Together they talked about BioWare’s closure and the cancellation of Mass Effect 5, calling it an incredible loss for everyone. The actors later posted on X, urging people to sign the petition to save Mass Effect.

The #SaveMassEffect petition has already gathered more than 200,000 signatures, which is impressive for just a few days. According to available information, Mass Effect: Universe was an extremely large and ambitious project. The story centered on an intergalactic Cold War set about 600 years after the ending of Mass Effect 3, with Shepard’s legacy intact regardless of the ending. The developers also planned to let players create alternative timelines based on all the choices made in the original trilogy, which would have given each player a unique experience.
