Blizzard Unveils Overwatch 2 x Transformers Collaboration in New Season 11 Trailer
Blizzard has finally revealed the highly anticipated Transformers collaboration in Overwatch 2 with a new trailer, showcasing four heroes getting exciting new skins. Among the highlights, Reinhardt transforms into Optimus Prime. Season 11, which launched on June 18, brought numerous changes and additions to the game. These include the return of the popular Pink Mercy skin and the introduction of a new Push map, Runasapi, set in Illari's hometown in Peru. The Colosseo map also received a rework, and Blizzard added a dedicated section for Community Crafted Arcade mode, offering creative variations and boosts for characters.
Season 11 of Overwatch 2 has been rich with crossovers and inspirations. A notable example is the introduction of new character skins based on the fictional Ultrawatch, drawing themes from franchises like Ultraman and Power Rangers. Heroes such as Ana, Wrecking Ball, Cassidy, Reaper, and Sojourn don heroic costumes to battle Kaiju-inspired Roadhog and Zenyatta, controlled by Calamity Express Ashe, who bears a resemblance to the classic Power Rangers villain, Rita Repulsa. However, the spotlight quickly shifted to July 9, when Blizzard teased a major crossover event with Hasbro's Transformers franchise.
Fans got an early glimpse of the Transformers collaboration through a comic, but Blizzard has now released a full trailer detailing the new skins. Animated in a nostalgic style reminiscent of the 1980s and 90s, the trailer confirms that Ramattra, Illari, Reinhardt, and Bastion will receive unique cosmetics transforming them into iconic Transformers characters.
Overwatch 2 Transformers Skins List:
- Reinhardt - Optimus Prime
- Bastion - Bumblebee
- Ramattra - Megatron
- Illari - Arcee
The fan reaction to the trailer has been overwhelmingly positive. Many praised the chosen animation style, while others noted that this collaboration offers some of the best Transformers content in years. Some fans were surprised by the selection of the newer character Illari to represent Arcee, while others felt that Bastion as Bumblebee was a missed opportunity, suggesting Soundwave might have been a better fit. There were also calls for more Transformers characters, particularly Decepticons, with fans wishing for a Pharah Starscream to balance out the predominance of Autobot characters.
In addition to the new skins, July 9 also marks the return of the Overwatch Summer Games limited-time event. This event brings back popular modes like Lucioball and Winston's Beach Volleyball, along with summer-themed cosmetics. Players will find plenty of new items and cosmetics in the shop, with some having already earned Lifeguard Lúcio and Lifeguard Junkrat as premium rewards in the Season 11 Battle Pass.
