Valve's New Game "Deadlock" Combines Elements from Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, and Valorant
The gaming world is abuzz with the news of Valve's upcoming game, Deadlock, described as a competitive third-person 6 vs. 6 hero-based shooter that blends elements from Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Valorant, Smite, and Orcs Must Die. Recently shared screenshots reveal a steampunk city setting and glimpses of several characters, fueling excitement among fans.
A gameplay video posted on Reddit has provided further insights into Deadlock. The video showcases the game's training area, where players can practice their main abilities, and highlights various colorful heroes along with their descriptions. Some attentive Redditors spotted a familiar name in the footage, sparking speculation about the source of the leak.
Insider Gaming has shared additional details about Deadlock, noting that it is currently in an "early development build" with numerous experimental gameplay features and art assets. The game will feature 19 heroes, including magicians, robots, creatures, and humans, each with unique abilities and playstyles suited for roles such as healers, tanks, assassins, and ranged characters.
Players who have tested Deadlock describe it as reminiscent of Dota 2, where the objective is to kill enemies and creeps to collect souls, the in-game currency used for purchasing upgrades. Players earn the most souls by shooting enemies, though even souls that float away provide a small amount of currency. Creeps spawn randomly throughout the map, including a larger AI boss in the center. Additionally, players can deposit "spirit urns" in the middle of the map to grant the entire team more souls, with the spirit urn carrier being visible to all players on the minimap.
Content creator Tyler McVicker has revealed that hundreds of people, including Valve employees and some YouTubers, are currently playtesting the game.
While the release date for Deadlock remains unclear, Insider Gaming speculates that the game might be launched next year.
