E3 confirms the absence of an event in Los Angeles in 2024, with a "complete reinvention" planned for 2025
In response to previous reports, ESA has also confirmed the absence of an E3 event at the Los Angeles Convention Center next year, although plans for a 2024 event have not been completely canceled, as stated.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, the organization is working on a "complete reinvention" of the E3 show for 2025.
E3 was set to return this summer with its first in-person event in four years as part of a multi-year deal with PAX organizer ReedPop. However, after months of preparation and uncertainty, the event was canceled in March.
At that time, ReedPop claimed that the event "simply did not generate the sustained interest necessary to execute an event that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry."
In a new statement, ReedPop's head of gaming events, Kyle Marsden-Kish, said, "We respect our partnership with ESA over the past 14 months and appreciate their contributions to the gaming industry as a whole. While we will not be involved in the future of E3, we look forward to its evolution and the events ESA organizes."
ESA President and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis added, "We appreciate ReedPop's partnership over the past 14 months and support their ongoing efforts to bring the industry and fans together through their various events.
"While the scale of E3 remains unparalleled in our industry, we continue to explore how we can evolve it to best serve the video game industry and are evaluating every aspect of the event, from format to location. We remain committed to our role as an industry convener and look forward to sharing news about E3 in the coming months."
In the absence of E3, many other events took place in Los Angeles in June, including the competing Summer Game Fest by producer Geoff Keighley, Ubisoft Forward, and Xbox Showcase.
