Borderlands 4 is already setting up its post-launch roadmap as Gearbox confirmed the game’s first paid DLC. During Tokyo Game Show 2025, the studio introduced C4SH, a vault hunter scheduled to arrive in Q1 2026 alongside a new story expansion. The reveal comes as PC players continue to face performance hurdles, keeping attention split between future plans and present problems.

C4SH was shown through a short cinematic trailer at Gearbox’s panel. The character is a former casino dealer robot built around chance-driven mechanics, with all three of its skill trees tied to probability. Gearbox has not shared the full breakdown of abilities yet, though details are expected before launch. Players will also get access to “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned,” a story pack that expands the world with new missions, gear, cosmetics, and an entirely new region.

While the future of Borderlands 4 was showcased in Japan, the present remains rocky. A recent update aimed at improving performance introduced further instability, prompting Gearbox to advise PC users to clear shader caches if the game crashes within the first 15 minutes. Technical issues have continued to linger since release, and the Switch 2 version of the game has now been pushed back to an unspecified date for “additional development and polish time.”

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford responded to player concerns earlier this year by suggesting unsatisfied buyers refund the game if the experience was unplayable. Despite these challenges, the studio insists fixes are ongoing, and many who are able to run the game smoothly are praising its combat and structure.

Eurogamer’s Borderlands 4 review noted:

“Borderlands 4 brings a more sensible script and a true open world to its pseudo-cel-shaded gun-show. But these moderate improvements are undermined by frustrating exploration and combat that takes too long to properly shine.” — Eurogamer

Here’s our Borderlands 4 recap based on major reviews from the media.

Alongside the DLC announcement, Gearbox is continuing to roll out updates. The latest patch, weighing 11GB, finally added a field of view slider to consoles. It’s a feature that PC users had at launch and console players had long requested. Gearbox previously confirmed it was “exploring” the addition, making its inclusion one of the most notable quality-of-life upgrades so far.

For now, Borderlands 4 is trying to balance forward momentum with patchwork. Players have more content to anticipate, but stability remains a core issue that Gearbox must resolve to keep momentum heading into 2026.
