The future of Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise is seeming to be bright. The latest studio installment, Resident Evil Requiem, continues to dominate in sales, and it’s currently named the best-selling title of 2026, beating NBA 2K26, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Madden NFL 26, and Minecraft. Moreover, Capcom is confirmed to be working on multiple Resident Evil installments, including the DLC for Requiem and Resident Evil 10.

According to reliable Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem, the remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica is expected to be the next major franchise title. Although Capcom hasn’t confirmed the fact they’re working on the game, insiders repeatedly emphasized the remake of Code Veronica will be announced this year and released next year. Recently, he shared a new update about Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake, which might indicate it might be one of the best Resident Evil games, as Kazunori Kadoi & Yasuhiro Anpo will serve as the game’s directors. They previously directed Resident Evil 2: Remake and Resident Evil 4: Remake, which have become not only great Resident Evil games but also some of the best remakes ever.

“Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake is being directed by Kazunori Kadoi & Yasuhiro Anpo, same duo who directed Resident Evil: 2 Remake & Resident Evil: 4 Remake.”

During the conversation on X, Dusk Golem also expressed hope Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake could be even better than the latest Resident Evil Requiem, as you can check out below:

“CV has Zero chance of doing as good as Requiem. Zero

So I think the topic is a little more complicated.

Requiem's blow-up success is new for the series, & I do have my doubts a remake can outdo a new mainline title -- But there is a very high chance that Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake is going to be fantastic. Maybe even even moreso than RE9, though that's subjective, but what I mean is it might end up reviewing better than RE9, & while to see how it pans out, it stands a serious chance at being considered the best Remake (& as an extension, one of the best Resident Evil games) in the franchise's history. Of course, to see how it actually plays out, but there's a lot of internal faith in the project & how it's been turning out & doing with internal testing.

It's a little hard to predict because RE is a train going full steam ahead not stopping right now”

Resident Evil Code: Veronica was originally released back in 2000. It features Claire Redfield and her brother Chris and takes place three months after the events of Resident Evil 2.

As for Resident Evil Requiem, the game is confirmed to receive a story expansion soon; Leon S. Kennedy is likely to be the protagonist, although Capcom hasn’t confirmed it yet. Also, Ada Wong is expected to be presented in the DLC.
