CD Projekt RED, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt için yeni DLC olan Songs of the Past'ın ilk detaylarını paylaştı.
CD Projekt RED studio held a special stream dedicated to the anniversary of The Blood and Wine DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. But it seems like more attention was given to the game’s new expansion, Songs of the Past, whose announcement was originally supposed to take place as part of a stream, but due to a leak, it happened a few days earlier. But the fans were not exactly upset about it.
During the stream, the first official details of the expansion Songs of the Past were revealed. They were shared by the company's social media manager, Laura Beitzel - she hinted that the new expansion will be comparable in size to The Blood and Wine, offering new locations, characters, and storylines.
“Songs of the Past will be aligned with what you’re familiar with in Blood and Wine, and what you’ve come to experience and expect from us when we do our expansions”
As for the plot, there have already been rumors that Songs of the Past will somehow lay the foundation for the future fourth installment of The Witcher. Considering that Geralt will once again be the main character of the expansion, it is most likely a kind of 'handover' to Ciri, who will be the protagonist in the new game. Fans have noted that in the concept art for Songs of the Past, Geralt has a sword sheath similar to Ciri's in The Witcher 4 trailer —and the developers have confirmed that this sword is an important plot component in the new DLC.
“It is a very important sword for the story and you will get to know it when the game comes out. So a few more streams before that when reveal it.”
Laura Beitzel gave even more specific hints - she recalled a post published last month dedicated to the Belleteyn celebration, where one could capture Geralt sitting by the fire and his friend, Dandelion, having fun with other villagers.
“There are some hints waiting for you on a very important evening in Witcher lore, Belleteyn Night, in our Belleteyn celebration that we shared a few weeks ago.”
In the lore of The Witcher, Belleteyn Night is a spring festival of fertility, celebrated on the night of April 30 to May 1. On this day, inhabitants hold dances around a bonfire, but more importantly, they believe that it is this very day when the boundary between worlds is erased. It is possible that Songs of the Past will begin on this day, and the twist involving the erasure of the boundary between worlds will become the main plot point of the expansion.
In addition, CD Projekt RED also confirmed that Songs of the Past will offer new cards for the beloved Gwent game, and the first showcase of the game will most likely take place at Gamescom 2026, where its participation has been confirmed.
