FromSoftware, the studio behind such gaming hits as the Dark Souls game series, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring, has not yet officially announced their new single-player game. But considering that several gaming shows are expected this week, the chances of an announcement are significantly increasing.

On this occasion, one of the Reddit users decided to point out that FromSoftware may have Project FMC in development, which is being worked on by the creator of the combat system of Sekiro, Masaru Yamamura. Last year, the head of the studio, Masaru Yamamura, also hinted at this.

In addition, the report also mentions other official comments regarding future FromSoftware games, starting from April 2023, including hints from Miyazaki about creating a game in the JRPG genre. More detailed information you can check out below:

FROMSOFTWARE - Future Projects and Project FMC

The project via MP1st is said to be "Deep into development" and at such an "advanced stage" that it should be released fairly soon.

  • It will be multi-platform.
  • Miyazaki has been working on The Duskbloods, Nightreign had many Elden Ring leads, but the godfather of Sekiro's combat system, Masaru Yamamura has been unaccounted for since 2023, as well as multiple leads.
  • Hidetaka Miyazaki in 2025 said, "We still intend to actively develop single player focused games such as this that embrace our more traditional style." Project FMC could finally be the return to that.

Official Statements on Future Projects:

April, 2023- Yasuhiro Kitao: "We do develop multiple titles simultaneously, we do have several teams working on different projects. We hope to stagger our releases and bring something new and exciting at hopefully not so long intervals going forward."

FromSoftware has achieved this, consecutively releasing a new project every single year since 2022.

June, 2024- Hidetaka Miyazaki: "That difficulty curve and sense of achievement are always going to be a core of my game direction and game design. But with another game, perhaps--and this is going to happen sometime in the future that I'll be able to talk about it in more detail--there might be different themes or core elements.

FromSoftware's New Age - "It would be hard to describe the next chapter of From Software in one wordbut if I had to, I think it would come down to value and how we create this value. The words that you use to describe it, fantasy, world setting, difficulty, sense of achievement, that perhaps I think is more closely tied to my own set of values than the company itself. These new directors and game designers that are up-and-coming, our in-house talent, may not share those exact same values."

"I believe that will translateinto being able to show the world the so-called new FromSoftware, as well as the types of games that we will be developing in the future."

The studio has since revealed two experimental games that depart from their traditional style of game. Nightreign and The Duskbloods

"Sharpening" Sekiro's combat flow, Escaflowne Dark Fantasy + Sci-fi Mecha, and JRPGs:

June, 2024- Hidetaka Miyazaki “Combat has become something much more fluid and active, I think, which was a very defining characteristic ofSekiro. Personally, I think there’s one more level we can crank it up to and sharpen that and hone in on that mechanic even more"

"I’d love to work on a game that evokes the same themes as anime series likeAura Battler DunbineandThe Vision of Escaflowne, but it would be incredibly difficult to do so.I want to work on a game like that."

Miyazaki really enjoys Magic: The Gathering, and has also expressed desire to work on a JRPG eventually.

It is also worth noting that last month, information leaked that the next FromSoftware game will be called Cerulean Onslaught; it is a dark-action RPG where players can sail the ocean exploring islands, with their own ship also acting as a hub. Moreover, it was announced that the official reveal will take place at the Summer Game Fest, which will be held later this week, and the release will take place in August. Whether this information is accurate - we will find out later this week.
