ArenaNet is taking the Guild Wars franchise in a bold new direction with the announcement of MISTBOUND: Guild Wars Card Game, a free-to-play tactical card battler set in the iconic MMORPG universe. Developed in partnership with bilibili and NC Corporation, the upcoming title is planned for both mobile and PC platforms, although an official release date has yet to be revealed.

Guild Wars Enters the Tactical Card Battler Genre

Rather than expanding the series through another traditional RPG, MISTBOUND reimagines the world of Tyria as a strategic card-based experience. The game retains the familiar lore, characters, and fantasy setting that longtime fans know and love while introducing a completely new style of gameplay.

Players will engage in tactical battles on a 5×3 grid, where positioning units is just as important as building the perfect deck. Success will depend on careful planning, strategic placement, and making the most of each squad’s unique abilities.

Build Squads From Iconic Guild Wars Classes

MISTBOUND allows players to assemble teams using some of Guild Wars' most recognizable professions, including:

• Mesmer
• Necromancer
• Ranger

Each class brings its own strengths, abilities, and tactical options to the battlefield, creating a wide range of strategic possibilities.

The game also introduces Commander units, powerful leaders equipped with unique passive traits and active skills that can dramatically influence the outcome of a match.

Several fan-favorite characters from across the Guild Wars universe will return as playable Commanders. Confirmed names include:

According to ArenaNet, each Commander is designed around distinct playstyles inspired by the profession system seen in Guild Wars 2.

Players can look forward to both single-player content and online PvP battles, offering multiple ways to experience the game.

Since its debut in 2005, the Guild Wars series has remained one of the most recognizable names in the MMORPG genre, earning a dedicated fanbase through its rich world-building, large-scale PvE and PvP content, and unique class-based gameplay.

MISTBOUND represents one of the franchise’s most ambitious expansions yet, bringing the Guild Wars universe into an entirely new genre while preserving the core elements that made the series popular.

One important detail from the announcement is that MISTBOUND will initially launch exclusively in China, with bilibili serving as the game's regional publisher.
