Mevcut bilgilere göre, Bungie Sony stüdyoyu satın almadan önce 5-6 oyun geliştiriyormuş.
This summer, Bungie—the studio best known for developing most of the Halo franchise, as well as the Destiny duology—went through one of the toughest periods in its history. As well as stopping support for Destiny 2 and the flop of their new game, Marathon, released earlier in March, the studio has seen significant job cuts carried out by Sony —and it remains unclear what lies ahead for the developers in the near future.
As we recall, Bungie came under Sony’s wing in July 2022, following the initial announcement in January of that year, and at the time, many were convinced that this was Microsoft’s strong response to their acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Unfortunately, as time has shown, Sony did not come out on top in this situation; the aforementioned Marathon flopped, Bungie ended support for Destiny 2, and Blizzard, in turn, became the most profitable company for Xbox.
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier also revealed an interesting detail. In one of his recent videos, he stated that Bungie had been working on several games simultaneously before Sony acquired the studio. Specifically, there were 5–6 projects, but, unfortunately, none of them progressed to full-scale development. You can check out Schreiber’s more detailed comments on this below:
“As part of that acquisition, Bungie also had a whole bunch of other live service games in the works that Sony wanted to see come out in the subsequent years in addition to, of course, Destiny 2, which is Bungie’s big ongoing project. But for a variety of reason that I will get into in a story down the road, most of those projects fell apart. I believe there were five or six different projects that were happening.”
Schreier also mentioned that one of these games was Destiny: Rising, a mobile game set in the game's universe released last year, which failed to become a financial success, as well as Marathon, which was mentioned above. As for Bungie, it is reported that the studio has lost around 400 staff members as a result of the layoffs. This June it was also announced that Justin Truman had stepped down as head of Bungie.
Meanwhile, Destiny fans, hoping to see a third installment, have even launched a petition, which has already gathered over 400,000 signatures. However, given Bungie’s current situation, the game’s release in the near future is highly unlikely.
