Baldur's Gate 3 Expanding Playable Races and Classes for Launch
In a recent Community Update, Larian Studios shared exciting news about Baldur's Gate 3. The highly-anticipated RPG will offer two additional races, a new class, and a multitude of subclasses for players to choose from at launch. The PC release date has been moved up by almost a month, although the PS5 launch experienced a slight delay.
One of the major highlights is the expanded character creation options. Players will now have the opportunity to play as Half-Orcs and Dragonborn, alongside the existing races from the Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Player's Handbook. Dwarves will also gain the option to play as Duergar, the psionic residents of the Underdark, as a subrace choice.Furthermore, the Monk class will make its debut in Baldur's Gate 3. This agile warrior employs light weapons, unarmed strikes, and ki to control the battlefield and vanquish foes. Fans of Dungeons and Dragons will recognize Monk abilities such as Deflect Missiles and Martial Arts. They can select from three Monastic traditions: Open Hand, Shadow, and Four Elements, each slightly adapted to suit the game's video game setting.
But the excitement doesn't stop there! Each of the game's 12 existing playable classes will receive at least one new subclass option. Whether it's the Gloom Stalker Ranger or the Wild Magic Sorcerer, every class now offers a minimum of three choices. Notably, the Cleric and Wizard classes feature more than double that number. With a total of 46 subclasses available at launch, players will have ample opportunities to create powerful character builds based on Dungeons and Dragons in Baldur's Gate 3.
The game will also introduce numerous other features, including 37 feats, with at least half being new for the launch. Over 600 spells and sub-spells will be available, with dozens of options not seen during the Early Access phase. Additionally, the maximum level cap will be raised from 10 to 12, granting access to formidable abilities such as 6th-level spells like Chain Lightning and Otto's Irresistible Dance for spellcasters, a third attack for Fighters, and Reliable Talent for Rogues. On July 7, more details about these features and others will be revealed during Baldur's Gate 3's final Panel From Hell event.
