Donkey Kong'un Nintendo Switch 2'ye Dönüşü
Excitement is building for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, with the company already teasing its appearance on Direct Event in April 2025. While much is still unknown, one thing is certain: Mario will have some stiff competition in the spotlight. 2025 is shaping up to be the year of Donkey Kong, and it’s already starting to show.

January 2025 kicked off the year with the release of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, a high-definition remaster of the 2010 Wii title. While it's not a completely new game, this re-release, which includes extra levels from the 3DS port, has certainly rekindled interest in the beloved franchise. The original Donkey Kong Country Returns wowed players with its challenging 2D platforming, proving that Retro Studios had more than just Metroid Prime up its sleeve. If you haven’t experienced this gem yet, the HD remaster is definitely worth picking up.
But the return of Donkey Kong doesn’t stop at games. Nintendo is expanding its Super Nintendo World theme parks worldwide, and late in 2024, a Donkey Kong Country expansion opened in the Hollywood park. Featuring immersive attractions such as mine cart roller coasters and food served in barrels, the expansion is a testament to Nintendo's commitment to celebrating Donkey Kong alongside its more prominent franchises like Mario.
However, the most compelling evidence of Donkey Kong's resurgence comes from the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal trailer. Among the teased titles, a new Mario Kart game stood out, but it was Donkey Kong's redesigned look that stole the show. His new, more cartoonish appearance, reminiscent of his classic arcade days, closely mirrors his portrayal in the Super Mario Bros. Movie. Given that the movie is getting a sequel in 2026, and a potential Donkey Kong spin-off could follow, the timing of this redesign feels deliberate.
This push for Donkey Kong isn’t just a coincidence. It's part of a coordinated effort that signals something big: a major new Donkey Kong adventure is likely coming to the Switch 2 in 2025, possibly developed by Nintendo Tokyo – the team behind Super Mario Galaxy and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. With its rich history and renewed focus, Donkey Kong may soon be taking center stage alongside Mario, bringing the beloved ape’s legacy full circle.
