Harry Krueger, one of the creators of the PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal and a former employee of Housemarque, has announced the launch of a new game studio—Cosmic Division.

The announcement comes from his social media accounts. Furthermore, he added that the Helsinki-based studio is already working on its debut project—a new standalone IP being developed for PC and consoles. The game is described as “an unapologetically gameplay-first experience” and “a story with strong emotional resonance.” As revealed by VGC, he also addressed his former colleagues at Housemarque, thanking them for the time they spent together working on Returnal. Incidentally, Krüger also played a role in the development of the studio’s new game, Saros, which was released late last month on PlayStation 5.

“Today we officially step out of the void.

At Cosmic Division, we create uncompromising gameplay experiences that resonate with players long after the credits roll.

Our journey of cosmic wonder begins now, as we venture beyond the veil.

In a following post on X, Krueger said he can’t wait to share new details about his upcoming project, but it will likely be some time before we find out more.

“I haven't posted here in a while, but I'm thrilled to finally reveal what I've been working on behind the scenes.

As for the abovementioned Saros from Housemarque, the game received high reviews from critics for its combat system, visuals, and gameplay, though the sales are reportedly lower than expected. In Saros, you play as Soltari enforcer Arjun Devrai, and alongside your crew, the task is to explore the planet of Carcosa, where the human colony vanished. Carcosa is also in a state of perpetual eclipse, which distorts reality and directly influences gameplay and the plot. The game is now available exclusively on PlayStation 5.
