Earlier this year, filming began for the third season of The Last of Us, the HBO series based on Naughty Dog's same-titled video game— a season that is expected to be the final one. However, according to a recent announcement, production has been temporarily paused for a certain period.

The official British Columbia directory indicates that filming for the third season of The Last of Us was paused from June 1 to June 28 of this year; the project’s working title is Calm Current. Initially, the shooting schedule was expected to continue until November 2026, but due to this interruption, it remains unclear whether the production timeline will be extended or if the release of the new season might be delayed. The premiere date for the third season of The Last of Us is still unknown, though earlier reports suggested it is planned for 2027.

The third season of The Last of Us will adapt the remaining part of the storyline from The Last of Us: Part II and will present the story from Abby's perspective (played by Kaitlyn Dever). Additionally, the season will feature Bella Ramsey (Ellie), Isabela Merced (Dina), Jeffrey Wright (Isaac Dixon), Spencer Lord (Nora), Tati Gabrielle (Nora), and others. According to unconfirmed reports, Patrick Wilson will portray Abby's father, Jerry Anderson. It has also been announced that Peter Sarsgaard will play an original character created specifically for the series —Amon, one of the leaders of the Seraphites.

As for The Last of Us video games, not long ago, insider reports surfaced claiming that Naughty Dog is secretly developing The Last of Us: Part III and that its plot may focus on the idea of other immune citizens in the game’s world. For now, the studio’s only confirmed project is new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet—an upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive that doesn’t have a release date yet.
