Announced by Rockstar earlier this month, Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look has been a real breath of fresh air for fans waiting for news about GTA 6, given the game’s relatively quiet marketing campaign. The studio finally revealed its ambitious plans, confirming that the game would next be showcased on Netflix before appearing on its own platforms, while the title ‘An Extended Look’ raised hopes that this would be an in-depth presentation of the most anticipated game of 2026. That’s exactly what both Rockstar and gamers thought, until something happened last week that was no less—and perhaps even more—significant than Rockstar’s early announcement.

August 18, 2026, was the day when Rockstar once again experienced flashbacks to 2022, when a massive GTA 6 leak hit the internet. A hacker going by the name of Cyberleek suddenly published the first gameplay footage of an early version of GTA 6, and this was no one-off stunt—to date, he has already posted more than 10 gameplay videos, gradually offering a glimpse into more recent versions of the game, where improved graphics, a huge draw distance, lighting, and so on are clearly visible. Not only that, but he has already demonstrated lots of gameplay mechanics, such as interacting with NPCs, the need to refuel cars, flying over Vice City in a crop duster, and visiting nightclubs and strip clubs, and just the other day he caused quite a stir by revealing the nudist town in GTA 6 in full detail and even revealed a prologue to the game featuring Lucia in prison. Not to mention that he continues to blackmail Rockstar and has no intention of stopping.

Such a massive leak of GTA 6 gameplay—not only in the run-up to the upcoming presentation but in general—is comparable to a blow below the belt for Rockstar. It seemed they had learned from the mistakes made during the 2022 leak, but the hacker Cyberleek has managed (and still manages) to stay one step ahead. But even so, this doesn’t mean that the upcoming presentation, Grand Theft Auto: An Extended Look, is any less exciting—quite the opposite; in fact, it’s becoming even more intriguing to see how Rockstar will delight players, and there are certain elements that simply must be included in this highly anticipated showcase of the game.

Rockstar recently officially responded to the widespread leaks of GTA 6 gameplay, stating that they were incredibly disappointed that players had seen the game in this light. Speaking about the upcoming presentation on Netflix, the studio issued the following statement:

“We know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to deliver at the level you expect and deserve.”

It had been reported that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look was supposed to be the occasion on which Rockstar would finally unveil the game’s gameplay, revealing, if not everything, then at least a host of its features, showcasing in-game activities, the various locations available to visit, and so on. Although Cyberleek has already given us an idea of what the gameplay in GTA 6 looks like, the developers will likely provide a full preview as well as reveal and demonstrate much more. Speaking of the so-called wishlist, and based on what Rockstar has shown in the game’s screenshots, as well as known information and long-standing rumors, a rather extensive list has emerged of what we’d like to see in Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look.

Obviously, players are primarily keen to explore the open world in GTA 6, which is reportedly set to be one of the largest, if not the largest and most detailed, in the history of gaming. Although Cyberleek revealed GTA 6’s map in one of his first leaks, hopefully Rockstar will do it themselves. It has been confirmed that players will be able to enter many in-game buildings, each with its own unique interior. This applies to nightclubs and fast-food outlets, as well as hypermarkets and multi-story hotels with swimming pools and various other benefits. Not to mention the large number of tattoo parlors, clothes shops, and gyms where, just like in GTA: San Andreas, you’ll be able to build muscle. Speaking of other forms of entertainment, GTA 6 has also been confirmed to feature fishing, hunting, sports (basketball and tennis), various types of land and water racing, a fight club, and diving—and this is by no means an exhaustive list, as Rockstar is not expected to have revealed even half of all the possibilities yet.

Despite the numerous GTA 6 gameplay leaks, and the fact that in almost every one of them Jason interacted with NPCs, it is still not entirely clear to what extent their behavior mechanics differ from those in Red Dead Redemption 2. An Extended Look should provide clear confirmation that the NPCs in GTA 6 are not merely background characters, but fully-fledged residents of Vice City, living their own lives. Numerous rumors have suggested this, and the leaked GTA 6 gameplay has shown that they react to virtually any action taken by the protagonist, and can also do things that are entirely of their own accord. Given just how big the world in GTA 6 is set to be, it’s hard to imagine how much work will be required to bring this ‘sense of life’ to the game.

It is also known that GTA 6, like the previous two games in the franchise, will feature its own in-game equivalent of the internet, but this time Rockstar plans to raise the stakes. The game is expected to include its own version of TikTok or Instagram Reels, which will allow Jason and Lucia to keep up to date with events happening around the world. It will be interesting to see how all this is integrated into the game’s overall narrative, and whether the world will change depending on how players react to events unfolding on the social network. This is one of those cases where little is known about the concept, but it will be extremely interesting to see how it turns out.

There is one aspect that we’d particularly like to look at: the interaction between Jason and Lucia in GTA 6. A recent interview with Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, confirmed that it will indeed be possible to play as a pair—controlling one character while the other acts as a full companion in the sandbox, as well as playing separately. The switching will likely be similar to how it works in GTA 5, but this is something worth looking at in more detail.

If Rockstar really wants to outdo Cyberleek, they need to reveal things during “An Extended Look” that are not featured in any of the leaks that have emerged so far. For instance, confirmation of a first-person mode in GTA 6—which remains a mystery to fans, although the prospect is still very much on the cards—as well as the showcase of larger-caliber weapons, more detailed customization of both characters and vehicles—including interiors—and other stuff.

According to the BBC, the presentation for Grand Theft Auto: An Extended Look will be 30 minutes long, although there has been no official confirmation from Rockstar as yet.
