One More Level has released a new Gameplay Overview trailer for Valor Mortis, providing a closer look at the first-person Soulslike's combat system, weapons, progression, and supernatural abilities ahead of its October 13 release. The trailer is narrated by James Alexander, who voices protagonist William Dowsett.

Valor Mortis is being developed by One More Level, the studio behind the Ghostrunner series. The game takes players to an alternate version of Napoleonic Europe, where a mysterious plague has transformed the battlefield and created monstrous enemies.

The new trailer focuses heavily on the game's combat system. Players will have to manage stamina while combining light and heavy attacks with dodges, parries, and counterattacks. Different weapons are designed for different situations, encouraging players to adapt their approach depending on the enemy they are facing.

Among the weapons shown in the trailer are the Claymore, a slow two-handed sword designed to deal heavy damage, and the Musket, which offers greater range and firepower than William's pistol.

The first-person perspective is a key part of Valor Mortis' combat system. One More Level is attempting to combine the deliberate mechanics of a Soulslike with the fast-paced first-person action the studio previously explored in Ghostrunner.

Transmutations Add Supernatural Abilities

William will also have access to Transmutations, supernatural abilities that can be used for combat, defense, and exploration.

The trailer demonstrates several of these abilities. Fire can set enemies ablaze, while Shield absorbs incoming damage before releasing a shockwave. Grapple allows William to reach special points in the environment and opens up additional movement and exploration options.

This system gives players additional ways to approach encounters instead of relying exclusively on conventional weapons.

Progression and Build Customization

Valor Mortis will also feature several systems designed to let players customize William's build.

Catalysts serve as the game's upgrade currency. Players can spend them at Lanterns to improve attributes such as health, stamina, and parrying. When William dies, his Catalysts are left at the location of his death, following a familiar mechanic from the Soulslike genre.

Ambers, meanwhile, are used to further customize builds. These items can provide different bonuses and allow players to adapt William to their preferred playstyle. Some Ambers can also introduce trade-offs, making build selection an important part of progression.

Release Date, Platforms, and Price

Valor Mortis will launch on October 13, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. The standard edition will cost $39.99, while the Deluxe Edition will be priced at $59.99.

The Deluxe Edition will include a major story DLC scheduled for release next year, along with several cosmetic packs. One More Level has also confirmed that multiple free updates are planned following launch.

The game's voice cast includes James Alexander as William Dowsett, Jennifer English as The Shrike, and Vincent Cassel as Napoleon Bonaparte.
