Developer Riot Games has released Patch 12.05 for Valorant, delivering a combination of gameplay adjustments, quality-of-life improvements, and the debut of a brand-new agent.

This update places a strong emphasis on team coordination and strategic play, while also tuning several agents that have been dominating the current meta.

Miks Joins the VALORANT Roster

The biggest addition in Patch 12.05 is Miks, a Controller from Croatia who specializes in sound-based abilities designed to support teammates and disrupt enemies.

Miks brings a toolkit focused on teamwork and positioning. His abilities allow him to grant combat stim buffs to allies, deploy utility that can either heal teammates or concuss opponents, and place smokes across the map to control key areas. His ultimate ability sends out a powerful sonic wave that knocks enemies back and weakens them, making it useful for both pushing and defending objectives.

According to Riot Games, Miks is designed as a “team-focused” agent, encouraging players to coordinate with teammates and combine abilities for stronger results during engagements.

Sage Targeting Improvements

Patch 12.05 also includes updates for Sage, aligning her targeting system with the one introduced for Miks.

These changes include improved visual indicators when targeting allies and a minor model update reflecting the character’s evolving narrative within the game.

Agent Balance Changes and Gameplay Improvements

Several existing agents received balance adjustments aimed at reducing excessive individual power and promoting more team-oriented gameplay.

Yoru has been nerfed, with the duration of Gatecrash reduced and the number of Blindside charges lowered. These changes limit his ability to aggressively reposition and overwhelm opponents.

Clove also received nerfs, particularly affecting how their abilities function after death. Meanwhile, Skye now has a longer cooldown on her flash ability, reducing how frequently she can initiate engagements.

In addition to balance updates, Breach has received new voice lines, further expanding the character’s in-game personality and interactions.

New HUD Features and Quality-of-Life Improvements

Patch 12.05 introduces several UI improvements designed to provide players with clearer feedback during matches.

One of the most notable additions is the Assist Banner, which appears on the HUD when a player contributes to eliminating an opponent. This makes it easier to track supportive plays that help secure kills.

The killfeed has also been updated to display assisting agents and abilities more clearly, offering better visibility into how each elimination occurred. Additionally, status effects displayed on the HUD have been reorganized, making them easier to read during intense firefights.

Competitive Map Pool Changes

The update also refreshes the competitive map rotation.

Lotus and Fracture have returned to the ranked pool, while Abyss and Corrode have been removed.

Lotus itself has received additional adjustments, particularly on A-site, where Riot has made changes to reduce excessive early-round spam and create a more balanced environment for both attackers and defenders.

New Limited-Time Mode: Knockout

Patch 12.05 also introduces a new limited-time game mode called Knockout.

This mode features a unique mechanic where eliminating enemies can revive teammates, creating fast-paced matches that reward aggressive plays and teamwork. Games are shorter than standard matches, with 5v5 teams competing to win four rounds.

Additional System Updates

Beyond agent and map changes, the patch also includes ranked progression adjustments, updates to Premier mode scheduling, and numerous bug fixes across agents, maps, and the user interface.

These changes are part of Riot’s ongoing effort to improve performance, stability, and overall gameplay quality as the competitive scene continues to evolve.
