Supercell has officially unveiled one of the biggest progression reworks in Clash Royale history, arriving with the upcoming update on May 26, 2026. The patch introduces a brand-new Collection Level system, removes King’s Journey, and completely rebalances progression mechanics to make upgrading cards and earning rewards feel more straightforward and rewarding.

The update also lays the groundwork for future content, with Supercell confirming that a new game mode, a fresh Evolution, an upcoming Hero, and the return of C.H.A.O.S Mode are all planned for the months ahead.

King’s Journey Removed After Major Progression Rework

The most significant change in the update is the complete removal of King’s Journey.

Until now, progression relied heavily on XP, which many players found increasingly confusing due to different XP values tied to card rarities, upgrades, and unrelated rewards. Supercell acknowledged that the system had become difficult to track and no longer felt satisfying.

Replacing it is the new Collection Level system, where progression is now directly tied to overall card collection growth instead of XP farming.

How Collection Levels Work

Action
Collection Level Gain
Unlocking a card
Based on rarity
Upgrading a card
+1 Level
Unlocking an Evolution
+5 Levels
Unlocking a Hero form
+5 Levels

Higher-rarity cards provide larger initial boosts, but every upgrade consistently grants +1 Collection Level regardless of rarity.

Rewards Shift to Milestone Progression

The update also changes how rewards are earned.

Instead of unlocking rewards through XP progression, players will now receive rewards by reaching specific Collection Level milestones.

  • The first milestone unlocks at Collection Level 20
  • Rewards continue every 10 levels
  • After Collection Level 1500, rewards become available every 5 levels

Supercell also confirmed that all existing accounts will automatically receive Collection Levels based on current progress once the update launches.

Additional celebration rewards will also be distributed depending on each player’s starting Collection Level.

King Tower Progression Changes Completely

King Tower upgrades are also being redesigned.

Instead of gaining XP to level up King Towers, progression will now depend on how many cards have been upgraded to certain levels.

Importantly, Supercell confirmed that no account will lose King Tower Levels during the transition. Levels will either remain the same or increase automatically.

Several progression-based features are also being unlocked earlier:

  • Pass Royale unlocks through Arenas
  • Clans unlock through Arenas
  • XP is being removed entirely

Card upgrades, Masteries, and clan donations will no longer award XP after the update.

Clash Royale Reveals Massive Progression Overhaul for May 2026 Update 1

Card Masteries Become Easier to Complete

Card Masteries are receiving a full rebalance aimed at making challenges far less grind-heavy.

Task requirements across most cards are being significantly reduced, allowing players to complete Masteries faster than before.

If current progress already exceeds the new requirements once the patch arrives, those tasks will automatically be marked as completed.

The reward structure is also changing:

  • Gems and Wild Cards are moving into Collection Level milestones
  • Masteries will focus more heavily on Gold rewards

This shift is intended to better support long-term card upgrading and progression.

Overall Rewards Are Increasing

The progression overhaul also includes major adjustments to resource distribution across the game.

According to Supercell, the new system dramatically increases rewards such as:

  • Gold
  • Gems
  • Wild Cards
  • Evolution Shards

Legendary and Champion Wild Cards are receiving especially large boosts compared to the old progression model.

However, some resources are being reduced:

  • Random Rare Cards
  • Random Epic Cards
  • Random Legendary Cards
  • Random Champion Cards

While direct random card rewards are lower overall, the new system appears designed to give players more targeted progression resources instead of relying heavily on luck.

A New Era for Clash Royale Progression

The May 2026 update represents one of the largest systemic changes Clash Royale has received in years. By replacing XP progression with Collection Levels and restructuring rewards around clearer milestones, Supercell appears focused on making long-term progression easier to understand and more rewarding for both casual and competitive players.
