There are just over six months left until the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, the most anticipated game of 2026. While players hope that pre-orders for the game, like the new trailer, will be available as soon as possible, in a new interview, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed some interesting details about the game's budget and when Rockstar Games originally planned to release it.

During the interview with David Senra on his YouTube channel, Zelnick was once again asked about GTA 6’s release date. He confirmed that the game is set to release on November 19 (PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X/S), and no further delays are expected. Furthermore, he reveals that initially Rockstar Games planned to release the game on the same date—November 19—but two years ago, back in 2024. Since then, Grand Theft Auto VI has been postponed twice.

In response to Senra's question about whether GTA 6 is the most expensive video game in history, Zelnick replied, “I think so, but it depends on how you count” and added that the Grand Theft Auto franchise might be “the most valuable entertainment IP ever created”. When Zelnick was asked about the revenue the company earns thanks to GTA V, he did not disclose an approximate amount but stated that “it’s a lot”. Zelnik also called the game “a highly social experience”, since it regularly receives significant updates.

Speaking about the revenues of GTA V, last month the hacker group ShinyHunters leaked data about the profits generated by GTA Online. The leak showed that in the period from September 2025 to April 2026, the average weekly figure reached 9.5 million dollars; at the same time, almost half of the revenue came from the PlayStation 5. This is the main confirmation of why Rockstar Games first releases their games on consoles and only then on PC, and GTA 6 is no exception.

As for GTA 6 itself, according to rumors, pre-orders for the game may open tomorrow, as revealed by a leak from Best Buy. In addition, Take-Two’s new earnings call is confirmed to take place next Thursday (May 21) - therefore, we will almost certainly get new information about the game next week.
