There are less than four months to go until GTA 6, the most anticipated video game of 2026, launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S (November 19), but fans still don't know much about it—including technical specifications. It's likely Rockstar Games is doing everything it can to give players 60 FPS with the best possible image quality, but a former studio developer thinks that's unlikely to happen without some graphical compromises.

It’s about John Ricchio, who worked as a producer at Rockstar Games on projects like Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, and GTA 5. In a recent interview with Kiwi Talkz, they discussed how well current-gen consoles handle high frame rates—particularly relevant given GTA 6's approaching release. Ricchio doubts that Rockstar Games will be able to achieve a stable 60 FPS on consoles without sacrificing graphics, which would likely mean relying on a performance mode.

This isn't the first time we've heard something along these lines. Last month, Digital Foundry suggested GTA 6 will most likely have 30 FPS in Quality mode, but instead of a full 60 frames per second, players might get a special performance mode with some features included, running around 40 frames per second. At the same time, a Polish insider with close ties to Rockstar Games has previously revealed that GTA 6 will actually feature a 'Quality' mode at 30 FPS and a 'Performance' mode at 60 FPS.

During that same Kiwi Talkz podcast, Ricchio made a few more comments about GTA 6. According to him, the game will be "monstrous" in terms of attention to detail, and Rockstar Games may reuse content previously cut from previous Grand Theft Auto installments as well as other studio projects.

Meanwhile, rumors keep circulating about a possible imminent release of a new GTA 6 trailer. According to reliable insider Tom Henderson, it could drop on August 6 —the day before Take-Two Interactive's next earnings call. There's also word that t he new trailer will feature a Rolling Stones song—“Heartbreaker” —along with footage from Liberty City, the setting of GTA IV.
