Bloober Team has rolled out a new update for Cronos: The New Dawn, and the latest Cronos patch notes show that the studio is focusing on both performance optimization and a wide range of bug fixes. The patch, released on September 26, addresses ray tracing efficiency, GPU and CPU stability, memory management, and noticeable spikes in frame drops during gameplay. The result is a smoother experience across PC configurations, particularly in high-intensity moments such as stomping biomass or engaging large enemy encounters.

The patch resolves three distinct crashes that could previously interrupt progression, including one tied to the brothers’ cutscene, another connected to rerouter nail firing, and a crash triggered during player movement. Bloober Team also corrected issues where characters or animations would behave unexpectedly, such as cats glitching when petted, enemies shaking out of spawners, or the warden’s cape clipping through the environment. These corrections aim to preserve immersion and prevent players from being forced to restart sections due to visual or mechanical faults.

Environmental issues also received attention. Certain areas previously caused players to become stuck, particularly in the cemetery encounter and church zone. A number of beacon-related problems were fixed, ensuring progression markers activate properly and puzzles function as intended. Additional refinements to lighting, texture quality, and character models, like the traveler in the centipede nest, bring consistency to visuals. While Cronos does not rely on licensed assets in the way many other narrative-driven action titles do, its dark sci-fi aesthetic relies heavily on polish, and the update works to reinforce that.

The patch also reflects ongoing work to maintain balance in scripted encounters. Optional enemies like the chubby doppel, tied to specific zones, now behave reliably even when revisiting areas. Script triggers, including cinematic moments such as pillar destruction, are less likely to break. Dialogue between characters that previously failed to play in proximity to certain objects, like the phone booth sequence with Zybert and Eliza, now functions as expected. These fixes align the storytelling with player movement rather than leaving gaps caused by technical errors.

Quality of life adjustments are also listed. Database sorting has been added for easier navigation, collected cats now persist into New Game Plus, and several visual and audio inconsistencies in menus and cutscenes were corrected. Localization received a pass, smoothing out formatting and unwanted characters in different language builds. These refinements may seem minor compared to performance overhauls, but they help maintain long-term usability and clarity, especially for players starting new runs or experimenting with alternative routes.

Linux users are included in this update with a targeted HDR fix. The patch ensures that enabling HDR no longer creates display issues unique to the Linux version, aligning its technical stability with other supported systems.

Optimization is a central part of this release. Reductions in streaming spikes, memory usage, and GPU/CPU strain improve playability on a broad range of hardware. Ray tracing in particular benefits from adjustments that reduce the cost of lighting and reflection effects without cutting visual fidelity.
