Most fans have probably already pre-ordered GTA 6, which became available exactly a month ago when Rockstar Games revealed pricing for the Standard and Ultimate editions. But it turns out some players might run into trouble activating their digital key, since there's actually a limited period of time to do it.

As revealed by Push Square, Japanese gamers will have just 170 days from GTA 6's release—November 19, 2026—to activate their digital key; otherwise, they will lose the ability to do so entirely. According to Rockstar Games' official support, the countdown starts not from the moment of purchase but from the game's release date, and in Japan's case, this falls under regional regulations. It's still unclear whether this will get resolved or how it might affect GTA 6 sales in the Japanese market.

Additionally, two more factors could make things trickier here. As we know, GTA 6 will be sold exclusively in digital format, with no physical discs at all—even retail boxes will only include a digital code. Second, Sony has officially confirmed the company will stop producing video games on discs starting from 2028, which could only make the activation issue worse. It's hard to say how this all plays out, but Japanese fans probably are not thrilled about it. Nevertheless, it's not ruled out that Rockstar Games could still adjust its regional restrictions down the line.

Meanwhile, rumors keep circulating about a possible imminent release of a new GTA 6 trailer. According to reliable insider Tom Henderson, it could drop on August 6—the day before Take-Two Interactive's next earnings call. There's also word that the new trailer will feature a Rolling Stones song —“Heartbreaker”—along with footage from Liberty City, the setting of GTA IV.
